One of the most well-known Irish blends, Bushmills Black Bush features a lot of sherried malt in its recipe, alongside classically caramel-y grain whiskey. Suitable for enjoying neat, but it can also be used in whisky cocktails that call for dark fruit sweetness.
The nose shows notes of vanilla, toast and some exotic pineapple and lemon nuances. The palate is broad, textured and leesy with hints of honeycomb and some yellow citrus. The acidity is piercing due to no malolactic fermentation in this vintage and gives great focus and backbone to a wine as textured as this.

Beautifully made wine with freshness and effortless fruit. Ripe, but not heavy or tropical, thanks to the cool climate. Aromatic with out being pungent, with a balanced fruit weight and lovely natural acidity that cleans and refreshes the palate. Donovan gives the juice 1-2 hours contact with the skins, and this adds an extra layer of texture and complexity.

The 2008 Dom Pérignon is fabulous, but quite remarkably, it was even more open when I tasted it a year ago. Bright, focused and crystalline in its precision, the 2008 is going to need a number of years before it is at its best. Lemon peel, white flowers, mint and white pepper give the 2008 its chiselled, bright profile. Several recent bottles have all been magnificent. What I admire most about the 2008 is the way it shows all the focus, translucence and energy that is such a signature of the year, and yet it is also remarkably deep and vertical.

A great beginner’s whisky right here from the Glen Grant Distillery, produced in tall pot stills. This 10 year old Speyside single malt, having spent a decade in bourbon casks, boasts oodles of light, malty notes.
A fabulous 21 Year Old bottling from Glenfiddich, and as its name suggests this particular single malt was finished in casks used previously to age Caribbean rum for four months! Some cask influence in the form of tropical fruit and spicy ginger to be found in here.
Part of Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series comes a single malt which was finished for three months in casks which previously held IPA! Created collaboratively by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and IPA expert Seb Jones, the IPA which was in the casks before the whisky was specially brewed for this expression by the Speyside Craft Brewery.
Glenfiddich The Original is a single malt Scotch whisky inspired by a previous release from the legendary distillery – the 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt, the expression which Sandy Grant Gordon introduced the world to. Glenfiddich The Original was created by Malt Master Brian Kinsman, recreating the flavour profile of the 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt with help from the original recipe book from their 4th Malt Master, Hamish Robertson.
The second release in Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series is their Project XX expression, which was made not simply by one Malt Master, but 20! 20 Malt Masters were invited to the Glenfiddich distillery and invited them to pick any expression from the thousands of casks maturing in the warehouse. The 20 chosen whiskies were then married by Malt Master Brian Kinsman to create this single malt you see before your eyes.
Single malt from the Glenkinchie Distilley in the Lowlands, distilled back in 2007 and allowed a finishing period in Amontillado sherry casks. Amontillado is traditionally quite nutty, and particularly quite rich, too. A perfect partner for the light, grassy, fragrant malts of Glenkichie!
Part of Glenmorangie’s Prestige Range, this 18 year old spent its first 15 years in American white oak bourbon casks. After this time, 30% was transferred to Oloroso sherry casks where it spent its final days, as the rest remained in bourbon casks. After 18 years has passed in total, the whisky was reunited and bottled.
The Duthac comes from Glenmorangie’s range of expressions originally released for the Travel Retail market. This particular single malt, name after St. Duthac whose resting place sits at the centre of the Royal Burgh of Tain, has been part finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry and virgin oak casks before being bottled at 43% ABV
Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry’s Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.
Almonds and walnuts, covered in caramel and brown sugar. A little hint of ground clove brings spiciness. Orange oil starts off the palate, before giving way to brown sugar and more mixed nuts.

A marvellous expression from Hennessy, the VSOP Privilège is built using over 60 eaux-de-vie, all working handsomely together to create a flavour profile drenched in honey, vanilla, decadent fruit and winter spice. Wonderful served neat, but also spectacular in a Vieux Carré.
The term XO was coined for this very Cognac by Maurice Hennessy in the 19th century, and it was first bottled in 1870 for family and friends. This blend is composed of over 100 eaux-de-vie from the Grande and Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fins Bois regions. A rich, spicy, complex and truly historical Cognac, destined to be had alongside a cigar.
The nose shows lovely cherry, currant and plum fruit, floral character and spice. A medium bodied palate, well balanced with a nice freshness and a savoury finish. Fine and expressive with wonderful purity.

Grapes from the lower Helderberg. A pretty nose with notes of red fruit, violets and fresh herbs including a touch of mint. Surprisingly light-bodied given an alcohol of 14%, this is already very approachable.

The Imoya VSOP Cape Brandy from KWV is a South African brandy made with a blend of double-pot-stilled spirits which have been aged in small French oak barrels for up to 20 years. Plenty of roasted, spicy notes, well blended with nutty hints and classic sweetness. The name “Imoya” means “The ancient wind of Africa”.

The nose is very smooth with woody and a hint of a fruity undertone before the flavour launches into a mingling of caramel, vanilla and of course the signature notes of oak and fruit.
The superlative Jameson 18yr has long been considered one of the brightest stars of the range. This blend of two pot-still whiskeys and a single grain is matured in oloroso sherry casks and finished in bourbon wood for six months for a brilliantly complex pot-still character.

King George V is a very special edition from Johnnie Walker, packaged beautifully and made to celebrate the Royal Warrant bestowed upon the company by the monarch. This is made with some of Johnnie Walker’s rarest stocks, including Cardhu, Lochnagar and even Port Ellen.

They used old barrels to allow the natural grape expression to come through. The wine was left on lees for 12 months with regular batonnage – no sulphur was added to allow the wine to develop its own characteristics without any intervention. The nose shows lovely cherry, currant and plum fruit, floral character and spice. A medium bodied palate, well balanced with a nice freshness and a savoury finish. Fine and expressive with wonderful purity.

Big Peat’s gone and got himself a trusty sidekick in the shape of a dapper Fox Terrier wearing a monocle! Scallywag from Douglas Laing is a vatted malt made from Speyside whiskies, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskies used in the small batch release come from Spanish sherry butts, giving Scallywag a fab sweetness that’s balanced by some “mischievous” bourbon cask whisky also in the blend.

on these sandy silica rich granite well drained soils. A rare combination for Pinotage which usually is planted more on clay mountain slopes or more fertile soils. Also rare being in a Maritime macro climate.

Very little warm to hot days during January and early Feb, when Sinai Hill area is at its peak for ripening, gave excitement towards the taste of the berries. Smaller berries again, but with better acidity and a balanced flavour concentration with a lovely elegance which bodes well for quality. Zippy Acidity from vine stress was less than in 2018’s harsh Chenin vintage and less time was needed on skins in 2019, making a more eased out palate of great balance and subtle texture.

The aim is to curate the uniqueness of these two vineyards sharing the same soil type and maritime climate fit to these cultivars for a lighter style by nature of the vineyard’s conditions. Named after sovereign of the Tlokwa people in the 1820s – she fought against the British and ruled over 40,000 people at her peak. 92% Sauvignon Blanc matured in old oak for 12 months and 8% Chenin Blanc. A fragrant nose with top notes of potpourri and fynbos before white peach and blackcurrant. Medium bodied with layers of flavour, a little white pepper bite to the finish. Detailed and delicious, this has lovely composure.

A fresh and fragrant nose. Through thick, pungent smoke comes sweet pear and apple peels, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers, seaweed. It’s a bonfire of peat crackling with black pepper, with a touch of brine and dry barley. A welcome delivery of orchard fruit provides a delicate and beautiful balance.
Chocolate and raspberry aromas, with rich brioche and stewed cherries. Fresh red fruits – cherries and raspberries – combine with sponge-cake mix and cinnamon and a sprinkling of black pepper. Quite a big-flavoured dram, but balanced.
The Foundry Grenache Blanc 2019 has lifted floral aromas with hints of lemon cream and white stone fruit. The palate is rich but restrained with focused, pure fruit, minerally mid palate with characteristic rich, fleshy mouthfeel and texture and has a long finish with a citrus tang.

The Foundry Grenache Noir 2017 has a youthful deep ruby colour with good intensity on account of the low production per vine. On the nose there is a distinctive floral fleshy fruit quality intensified by black pepper, spice and a sanguine note. The palate is medium bodied with intense crushed dark fruit, peppery spiciness and an intricate fairy-dust like tannic structure. Persistent on the finish, this is delicious now and should improve and hold for up to 10 years.

The wine shows intense white pear, floral and lifted mineral and savoury aromas. The palate displays bright, fresh acidity on entry, followed by white peach, lemon curd and bread dough and a very fine crystalline minerality and rounded fleshiness. Typical varietal texture rounds out the palate before persistent length and clean finish.

The Foundry Viognier 2019 is pale in colour, clear and bright with a pronounced greenish hue. The nose is exotic with expressive apricot, spring blossom and creamy citrus nose, but remains elegant and perfumed. These flavours follow through onto the palate which is dense with ripe crushed fresh fruit, succulent juiciness and finishes with a mineral steeliness which makes this wine ideal with food. There is a line of natural acidity running through the wine maintaining freshness and focus.

Soft mouthfeel with elegant orange and lemon notes, then some vanilla and toffee adding richness, but this is a delicate, fine-boned single malt with lovely balance and a refreshing character.
The nose is rich and oaked. There are notes of chewy resinous wood with a well-balanced acidity. Fudge and Madeira with apple crumble with calvados. The palate is full and rich with winter spice; cinnamon and cloves, thick oak with developing aridity. The finish is long and dry with a peppery note.

There are notes of oily walnuts and winter fruitcake with spice and sugar. There is a golden syrup note. The finish is long and sweet with a soft, chewy oak.
Frosted Shreddies, coconut crème brulee and vanilla infused sugar. Sultanas moving into marmalade, a hint of blackcurrant. Baked apple slices in custard. With water it opens further with gummy bears, pear drops and a hint of fern, a subtle floral soapiness and some buttery toffee.
Dried fruit notes at the fore, soon joined by rich chocolate and a subtle nuttiness (almost a bit like a Picnic bar). Hints of struck match, anise, cinnamon and vanilla. Woodford Reserve is made from a mixture of pot still spirit distilled at the company’s Woodford Reserve Distillery in Woodford County, Kentucky, and column still spirits from the Brown Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. The mash bill is approximately 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley and matured for at least 6 years in American oak. Bottled at 45.2%
