A phenomenal whisky packing powerful peaty deliciousness, Ardbeg 10 Year Old is a favourite of many whisky lovers around the world. Produced on the Kildalton Coast of Islay, this single malt matures for a decade before being bottled without any chill-filtration.
Released in 2009, this is South Africa’s first ever single grain whisky, coming from the The James Sedgwick Distillery in Wellington. Bain’s Cape Mountain whisky is matured in first fill bourbon casks for an initial three years before spending a further two years in fresh first fill bourbon casks!
Quite soft and gentle. Malted barley and hints of cut herbs and a fresh floral note. Cereal and grist with a little honey.
Big Peat has got his Christmas jumper on once again, which can only mean one thing – it’s time for another edition of Big Peat at Christmas! For 2017, Douglas Laing have blended seven different Islay single malts (including whisky from the revered Port Ellen) together and bottled it up at cask strength.
A blend of different vintages, Laddie Classic marks a full release of American Oak matured whisky, crafted by Master Distiller Jim McEwan to exhibit the true, classic flavours of Bruichladdich, distilled from unpeated barley. The distillers are calling this ‘the essential Bruichladdich’.
Peated to a heavyweight 40ppm, Port Charlotte Scottish Barley is a cuvee crafted from cask profiles originally selected by master distiller Jim McEwan. It showcases the supreme elegance of this remarkable single malt – a union of the classic floral elegance of Bruichladdich and heavy peat. Trickle distilled from 100% Scottish Barley the spirit gently matures in the lochside village of Port Charlotte before being bottled here at the distillery using Islay spring water.
One of the most well-known Irish blends, Bushmills Black Bush features a lot of sherried malt in its recipe, alongside classically caramel-y grain whiskey. Suitable for enjoying neat, but it can also be used in whisky cocktails that call for dark fruit sweetness.
A well-balanced, gentle single malt from Speyside. Cardhu 12 is a very well put together malt.
A richly indulgent blended Scotch whisky from longtime favourite, Chivas. The Chivas Regal 18 Year Old was personally created by Master Blender Colin Scott, including over 20 single malts from around Scotland.
An absolute gem of a whisky, the 21 year old Royal Salute Signature Blend is a sophisticated expression. It’s aged for a minimum of 21 years in honour of the 21 Gun Salute that is fired at the Tower of London for Royal celebration.
Unveiled in 2018, Chivas Regal XV is a 15 year old blended Scotch whisky which has been finished in casks that previously held Grande Champagne Cognac!
Celebrating whisky craftsmanship at its finest, Copper Republic Single Grain Bourbon Cask Whisky is a small batch, double ex-Bourbon cask matured, handcrafted South African whisky. Freshly charred and aged ex-Bourbon casks are used throughout the maturation process which contributes perfectly to the depth of character, complexity and maturity of flavour in this whisky.
A great malt which Jim Murray awarded 95 points in his Whisky Bible, this is excellent value for money. The flavours are simple, but flawless, a clean, crisp 15 year old from the Dalwhinnie distillery.
With plenty of vanilla pod and succulent dried fruit, alongside hints of cigar box, mellow and quite rich – a great value whisky.
A great beginner’s whisky right here from the Glen Grant Distillery, produced in tall pot stills. This 10 year old Speyside single malt, having spent a decade in bourbon casks, boasts oodles of light, malty notes.
A fabulous 21 Year Old bottling from Glenfiddich, and as its name suggests this particular single malt was finished in casks used previously to age Caribbean rum for four months! Some cask influence in the form of tropical fruit and spicy ginger to be found in here.
Part of Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series comes a single malt which was finished for three months in casks which previously held IPA! Created collaboratively by Glenfiddich Malt Master Brian Kinsman and IPA expert Seb Jones, the IPA which was in the casks before the whisky was specially brewed for this expression by the Speyside Craft Brewery.
Glenfiddich The Original is a single malt Scotch whisky inspired by a previous release from the legendary distillery – the 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt, the expression which Sandy Grant Gordon introduced the world to. Glenfiddich The Original was created by Malt Master Brian Kinsman, recreating the flavour profile of the 1963 Glenfiddich Straight Malt with help from the original recipe book from their 4th Malt Master, Hamish Robertson.
The second release in Glenfiddich’s Experimental Series is their Project XX expression, which was made not simply by one Malt Master, but 20! 20 Malt Masters were invited to the Glenfiddich distillery and invited them to pick any expression from the thousands of casks maturing in the warehouse. The 20 chosen whiskies were then married by Malt Master Brian Kinsman to create this single malt you see before your eyes.
Single malt from the Glenkinchie Distilley in the Lowlands, distilled back in 2007 and allowed a finishing period in Amontillado sherry casks. Amontillado is traditionally quite nutty, and particularly quite rich, too. A perfect partner for the light, grassy, fragrant malts of Glenkichie!
Part of Glenmorangie’s Prestige Range, this 18 year old spent its first 15 years in American white oak bourbon casks. After this time, 30% was transferred to Oloroso sherry casks where it spent its final days, as the rest remained in bourbon casks. After 18 years has passed in total, the whisky was reunited and bottled.
The Duthac comes from Glenmorangie’s range of expressions originally released for the Travel Retail market. This particular single malt, name after St. Duthac whose resting place sits at the centre of the Royal Burgh of Tain, has been part finished in Pedro Ximénez Sherry and virgin oak casks before being bottled at 43% ABV
Sweet, syrupy cinnamon and drying malt lead, before a suggestion of Terry’s Chocolate Orange rises. A hint of lime rind is present, as are lychees and dates. The backdrop is filled with tobacco leaves and freshly roasted espresso beans, with a little honey-roasted cashew.
Almonds and walnuts, covered in caramel and brown sugar. A little hint of ground clove brings spiciness. Orange oil starts off the palate, before giving way to brown sugar and more mixed nuts.
A medium-bodied nose with hints of walnut, toffee apples, cedar wood, orange zest and malt
The nose is very smooth with woody and a hint of a fruity undertone before the flavour launches into a mingling of caramel, vanilla and of course the signature notes of oak and fruit.
The superlative Jameson 18yr has long been considered one of the brightest stars of the range. This blend of two pot-still whiskeys and a single grain is matured in oloroso sherry casks and finished in bourbon wood for six months for a brilliantly complex pot-still character.
A full and floral nose leads with the smooth sweetness of marmalade and fudge before a hint of Madeira and a little cut grass note emerge.
Johnnie Walker 18 Year Old is a terrific blended Scotch whisky from the world-famous range, which features a combination of up to 18 different whiskies, including the likes of Cardhu, Glen Elgin, Auchroisk and Blair Athol, among others. Carefully created by master blender Jim Beveridge, this expression packs bags of creamy vanilla, vibrant fruit and runny honey, alongside soft wisps of smoke.

King George V is a very special edition from Johnnie Walker, packaged beautifully and made to celebrate the Royal Warrant bestowed upon the company by the monarch. This is made with some of Johnnie Walker’s rarest stocks, including Cardhu, Lochnagar and even Port Ellen.
Honeyed oats, malty with creamy vanilla, toffee popcorn and a touch of gingerbread. A herby note punches through. Sweet, smooth caramel fudge. Butterscotch. Quite waxy with honey and vanilla coming in waves.
Johnnie Walker Green Label is crafted from a palette of Speyside, Highland, Lowland and island malts matured for at least 15 years – all perfectly balanced to bring together the intense aromas of crisp cut grass, fresh fruit, wood smoke, deep vanilla, and sandalwood.
It crackles with spice and is bursting with vibrant, smoky flavours – followed by a mellow bed of vanilla, a fresh zestiness and the Johnnie Walker signature of a long, lingering, smoky finish.
This particular expression takes further inspiration from the House Targaryen, which had something of an affinity for dragons, like the one you can see on the label. As such, this expression offers up a subtly smoky flavour profile, imparted by the peaty Caol Ila malts at its core.
Created by whisky specialist George Harper and his team, this whisky features malts from Clynelish (aptly one of the most northern Scotch whisky distilleries) and Cardhu, among others. The bottle has a temperature-sensitive graphic that will spell out the words “Winter is here” when it’s at the right temperature for serving.
Kamiki is a unique blended malt whisky made using Japanese malts whiskies combined with specially selected malt whiskies from around the world. After blending, the whisky is finished in casks made from yoshino-sugi (often referred to as “Japanese cedar”). It’s a particularly aromatic type of wood, and Kamiki is said to be the first whisky ever to enjoy a yoshino-sugi cask finish!
The Islay representative in the ‘Classic Malts’ series is a deep, dry and exceptionally peaty bruiser. Probably the most pungent of all Islay malts, Lagavulin is not for the faint-hearted but inspires fanatical devotion in its many followers.
Laphroaig 10yr is a full-bodied, smoky gem, with a residual sweetness and a hint of salt amid the seaweedy, peaty characters before a long warming finish.
An instant warming tang of smoke that fades into smooth floral scents and blends seamlessly into an oaky nuttiness and leaves a lasting sweetness on the taste. With a touch of water the peaty warmth fills the mouth but does not overshadow the sweet chocolate smoothness. This is balanced by the rich toffee taste and slowly fades into a delicate hint of heather and peat smoke.
Crisp and sweet. There are notes of sultanas and fresh apple blossom. There is a defined floral note followed by Sherry hints. Calvados emerges with a tropical fruit note and golden syrup. Medium-body and quite firm. There are notes of hot pastries and marmalade, sultanas and peels with a developing sweetness from the barley sugar.
The Fifteen Year Old expression of Fine Oak brings out the fantastic aromatic qualities of The Macallan whisky. This is perhaps the star of the range, balancing delicacy and finesse with richness on the palate.
Monkey Shoulder Scotch is a superb blended malt whisky from William Grant, made with single malts from three famous Speyside distilleries. The result is a smooth, creamy, supple and very malty Scotch which works superbly well neat, over ice, or in whisky cocktails
The award-winning Nikka Whisky From The Barrel blend is absolutely full of flavour. Bottled at 51.4% ABV. The blend combines both single malt and grain whiskies from the Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, which are then married in a huge variety of casks, including bourbon barrels, sherry butts and refill hogsheads. A huge depth of flavour in this stunning Japanese whisky.
Pure Malt Red is a Japanese blended malt in a charming looking bottle! This is made up of malt whisky from the Nikka distilleries Yoichi and Miyagikyo. The result is a fruit, creamy, buttery, and slightly herbal whisky.
A bustling seaside resort has grown up around the distillery in the two centuries since it was first built in the fishing town of Oban. The West Highland malt is still produced in the same unhurried, traditional fashion and this 14 year old is a classic dram from the distillery.
Big Peat’s gone and got himself a trusty sidekick in the shape of a dapper Fox Terrier wearing a monocle! Scallywag from Douglas Laing is a vatted malt made from Speyside whiskies, including Mortlach, Macallan and Glenrothes. Many of the whiskies used in the small batch release come from Spanish sherry butts, giving Scallywag a fab sweetness that’s balanced by some “mischievous” bourbon cask whisky also in the blend.
A fresh and fragrant nose. Through thick, pungent smoke comes sweet pear and apple peels, with pinches of maritime salt from kippers, seaweed. It’s a bonfire of peat crackling with black pepper, with a touch of brine and dry barley. A welcome delivery of orchard fruit provides a delicate and beautiful balance.
Chocolate and raspberry aromas, with rich brioche and stewed cherries. Fresh red fruits – cherries and raspberries – combine with sponge-cake mix and cinnamon and a sprinkling of black pepper. Quite a big-flavoured dram, but balanced.
Soft mouthfeel with elegant orange and lemon notes, then some vanilla and toffee adding richness, but this is a delicate, fine-boned single malt with lovely balance and a refreshing character.
The nose is rich and oaked. There are notes of chewy resinous wood with a well-balanced acidity. Fudge and Madeira with apple crumble with calvados. The palate is full and rich with winter spice; cinnamon and cloves, thick oak with developing aridity. The finish is long and dry with a peppery note.
Quite big and well-rounded. There are notes of chewy sultanas and Sherried peels, barley sugars and toasty cereals with petals and apple blossom. A touch of fudge and gentle wisps of smoke.
The nose is quite full and rich. There are notes of sandalwood and pine with a resinous note. Potpourri creeps in with barley sugar and cereal notes with acacia honey. The palate is rich and full. There are notes of oily walnuts and winter fruitcake with spice and sugar. There is a golden syrup note. The finish is long and sweet with a soft, chewy oak.
Frosted Shreddies, coconut crème brulee and vanilla infused sugar. Sultanas moving into marmalade, a hint of blackcurrant. Baked apple slices in custard. With water it opens further with gummy bears, pear drops and a hint of fern, a subtle floral soapiness and some buttery toffee.
Dried fruit notes at the fore, soon joined by rich chocolate and a subtle nuttiness (almost a bit like a Picnic bar). Hints of struck match, anise, cinnamon and vanilla. Dark chocolate, Seville orange, flaky pastry and crunchy fruits fresh from the orchard. Give it a minute and the anise on the nose comes running back too.
Tangy and ‘fizzy’, old fashioned lemonade and hints of Orangina or Buck’s Fizz even. There’s gooseberry and a touch of coconut and foam banana. Raspberry and rhubarb develop. The peat comes through as nutty malted barley.

A 12yr blended Irish whisky from duty-free favourite Tullamore Dew, Special Reserve has been assembled from a mixture of bourbon and oloroso sherry casks.
Woodford Reserve is made from a mixture of pot still spirit distilled at the company’s Woodford Reserve Distillery in Woodford County, Kentucky, and column still spirits from the Brown Forman Distillery in Shively, Kentucky. The mash bill is approximately 72% corn, 18% rye and 10% malted barley and matured for at least 6 years in American oak. Bottled at 45.2%
